Greetings my fellow Americans!
This morning I was sworn in as a citizen of the United States of America!
I was sworn in with over a hundred other people from 39 countries at a ceremony in downtown NYC. It was really moving, and the whole new spirit of Obama's America was so evident in the joy and enthusiasm and emotion that people displayed when thier names were read out. I had a load of my closest friends with me and I'll never forget it. Infact I won't have to, as I was being filmed for a documnetary the History Channel is making about people who are becoming naturalized.
Last week I had my naturalization meeting and the film crew were there too. At one point in the test you have to write down a sentence to prove your prowess in English, and my sentence was 'I bought a blue car today'. I thought that was such a great line: at once really sweet and childlike, but also so much about consumersim and gas guzzling! Today after the ceremony Aaron from the film company gave me a t-shirt with guess what written on it? Yes! I bought a blue car today! And guess what else? The guy at the t-shirt store was registered to vote by ME at an event I had earlier this year at Eastern Bloc, my local bar in New York City! Small world!
